The Longing In Me

Week Two - The Longing To Be Protected
Reminder: Watch this video the week of Jun 23 - Jun 29

What are you afraid of? Seriously, whether your fear is something like spiders or heights, or something ingrained even deeper in your soul, we all have fears. You've probably heard the advice that we all have to face our fears. Easier said than done, right? But when you come to the realization that as a child of God, you are living under the protection of the Most High God; it has a way of helping you face your fears, and overcome them. David did, as we'll see in this week's teaching segment. Thanks for joining us for this week's installment. By the way, you have nothing to fear!

Scripture of the Week

The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.
~ 1 Samuel 17:37 (NIV)

Discussion / Journaling Question

We sincerely believe this six-week online study will encourage you as you learn to direct your God-endowed longings to the one who longs for you. Let us encourage you, after watching each weeks' video teaching segment (and reading the corollary readings in the book and study guide if you've purchased those); to review the discussion/journaling questions we provide below. If you're doing this study "solo", let these prompt you in your prayer time, as you journal, or simply to ponder during your study time. If you are in a group setting for this study (face-to-face with others, or via social media or online tools); you may wish to discuss these with others in your "group".

Questions to ponder, journal, or discuss with others enjoying this study with you:

  1. Why do you think David did not hesitate to engage the mighty giant Goliath in battle (he actually runs toward him!), when his older brothers, the other soldiers and even King Saul were afraid to do so?
  2. God could have kept the bear and the lion from ever attacking David. He could have prevented Goliath from ever taunting the armies of Israel. Why do you think these enemies were allowed to enter David's life? Why do you think God allows trials, challenges and battles in your life?
  3. As you think back over your own spiritual walk, can you identify past trials or battles where God has protected and delivered you, as He'd done with David and the bear and lion? Let those episodes from your past encourage you in what you are facing today or in the coming days.
